Why a Stockport street has a Manchester number
Cheadle Hulme is a Greater Manchester suburb inside the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport, two miles south west of Stockport town centre and eight miles south east of Manchester. The 2011 census put the population at 26,479. It keeps an SK8 postcode and a Cheshire history, and it dials 0161, the same code as the rest of Manchester, which is why the number on this page starts the way it does.
It is a suburb that answers to two names. Anyone travelling out from the city calls it Manchester. Anyone paying the council tax calls it Stockport. The pizza is unaffected either way: the same halal Detroit-style spec we bake on Oxford Road and in Withington, in the same pans, at the same temperature, for the same four minutes.
Open for Sunday lunch. Nowhere else is.
Wednesday and Thursday we open at five in the evening and close at ten. Friday, Saturday and Sunday we open at midday and still close at ten. Monday and Tuesday we are shut.
That midday weekend opening is the one thing this shop has that neither of the others does on a Sunday. Oxford Road is closed on Sundays altogether. Withington does not open until four in the afternoon. So Cheadle Hulme is the only Dough Club serving Detroit-style pizza at lunchtime on a Sunday. A small fact, but a useful one to be holding at half twelve.
It reads the other way round midweek. Wednesday and Thursday there is no lunch here, because the shutters go up at five. If you want one of those two days at midday, Oxford Road is the shop, and it runs from twelve.
Collection off Station Road, or delivery
Dough Club trades as a takeaway, so there are two ways to get a pan out of Metropolitan House. Collection is the quicker: order in advance through the app, choose Cheadle Hulme, and pick it up at the counter. Delivery runs through the same app and is handled by our partner couriers.

What to order
Everything sells by the pan or by the slice. The pan is an 8 by 10 blue steel tray cut into four, so that every piece is a corner piece, which is the argument Detroit has been making since 1946. The slice is for one.
Sweet Peps puts pepperoni under diagonal lines of hot honey. The two meat-free pizzas are Classic Marg and Margarita Deluxe, and the garlic bread, the focaccia bites and the mozzarella sticks are meat free as well. All of the meat carries halal certification. No pork is served anywhere in the business and no alcohol goes into a dough or a sauce. That standard did not soften on the way out of the city.
The other two shops
Oxford Road, number 403 next to Manchester Royal Infirmary, opens at midday Monday to Saturday and runs to midnight on Friday and Saturday. Withington, at 1 Queen Street West off Wilmslow Road, opens Wednesday to Sunday from four in the afternoon and has no phone line.
Cheadle Hulme is the furthest south of the three and the only one outside the Manchester city boundary.
