Number 1 Queen Street West, just off Wilmslow Road in the middle of the village. Halal Detroit-style pizza in south Manchester, Wednesday to Sunday, from four in the afternoon.

Finding us in Withington

Dough Club Withington is at 1 Queen Street West, just off Wilmslow Road in the middle of the village. The Sainsbury’s Local is about a hundred yards away and the Co-op a little beyond it, so if you know that stretch of the parade you are on the right block. The postcode is M20 3BQ.

Withington is a Manchester suburb in the Old Moat ward, with Fallowfield to the north, Didsbury and West Didsbury to the south, Chorlton-cum-Hardy to the west and Burnage to the east. Wilmslow Road runs straight through the middle of it carrying the bus corridor, five and a half miles of route between Parrs Wood and the city centre. Christie Hospital and Withington Community Hospital are both in the suburb, on the same road.

The village lost its own railway station in 1961 and has never had it back. The nearest National Rail platform is Mauldeth Road, around eight tenths of a mile off. Metrolink closed part of the gap when the South Manchester line opened in 2013 and put a Withington tram stop back on the map.

The shortest week of the three

Withington keeps the tightest hours in the group. It opens Wednesday to Sunday and never before four in the afternoon. Monday and Tuesday the shop is dark.

The midweek close is the thing that catches people out. Wednesday and Thursday the counter shuts at eight, two hours earlier than it does at the weekend, so if you are only thinking about it at half seven you are thinking about it late. Friday, Saturday and Sunday run through to ten.

This is an evening shop and the hours say so without dressing it up. There is no lunch service here on any day of the week. If you want a Dough Club pizza before four in the afternoon, Oxford Road opens at midday Monday to Saturday, and Cheadle Hulme opens at midday on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

No phone line. Everything through the app.

Withington has no published telephone number. That is the settled answer rather than a temporary one, so nothing on this page offers you a number to ring. Ordering runs through the app: choose Withington, then choose collection and take it off the counter on Queen Street West, or choose delivery and our partner couriers bring it out to you.

Collection is the quicker of the two. Order before you set off rather than after you arrive. Catering and larger takeaway orders go by email to contact@doughclub.co.uk.

What comes out of the pan

Every pizza sells by the pan or by the slice. The pan is the 8 by 10 blue steel tray, cut into four, which is the whole argument: four pieces, four corners, no sad middle slice that nobody wanted. The slice is the version for one person on the way home.

Meat-free options run to Classic Marg and Margarita Deluxe on the pizza list, plus the garlic bread, the focaccia bites and the mozzarella sticks. A fully vegan build is in development and the mailing list hears about it first. Everything with meat in it carries halal certification. There is no pork on the menu and no alcohol in any dough or any sauce. Nobody has to ask twice and nobody has to read the small print.

The other two shops

Oxford Road is number 403, next to Manchester Royal Infirmary, open from midday Monday to Saturday and running to midnight on Friday and Saturday. Cheadle Hulme is in Metropolitan House on Station Road, open from five on Wednesday and Thursday and from midday Friday to Sunday.

Of the three, Withington is the one that opens latest in the day and closes earliest midweek. Worth a check before you set off on a Wednesday.
